The 2nd world's fair held in Philadelphia took place during the 150th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The city was was an obvious choice as host given its prominent role in the events of 1776. This depiction of Columbia is reminiscent of women drawn by Howard Chandler Christy, but here she is rendered in an even more sophisticated, winsome and sexy manner. Dan Smith designed at least three posters for this exposition.
