Italian anti-American propaganda of the most virulent nature. The text reads "America promises money and jobs for all Italians; but with more than 12 million of her own workers unemployed what benefits can she offer a conquered nation except slavery and dishonor?" The chilling, racist image emphasizes this claim by depicting an African-American Uncle Sam with a talonned hand on a yellow globe (indicating American dominance over the world), while an Italian man is forced to shine his shoes with his wife and son watching. "The specter of humiliation at the hands of a powerful, racially inferior America [was] a favorite theme of fascist propagandists" (Meehan, catalogue 17, p. 49).
