Autograph Letter Signed, "F[ra] Egnatio Danti," to Cavaliere Bocca, in Italian, urging him to secure the release of a friend's brother who was imprisoned by the Grand Duke three years prior, stating that the friend is a deeply religious [Dominican] friar, and adding that he himself has already done what he could on the friend's behalf. 1 page, 4to, with integral address leaf; faint scattered foxing, folds. Ignazio Danti (1536-1586) was a mathematician, cartographer, and astronomer, who worked under the patronage of the Grand Duke of Tuscany Cosimo I de' Medici, Pope Pius V, and Pope Gregory XIII, whom Danti advised concerning the reform of the calendar that became the "Gregorian."
