Additional Details

"Though the good Neapolitan work is of no use to me, I feel bound to become a subscriber, as the Zoolog. Station at Naples has done much admirable service to science. Will you therefore be so kind as to forward the enclosed & pay the charge, & you can send in your account whenever you think fit."
One of the publications produced by the Zoological Station at Naples, and to which Darwin is likely subscribing in the present letter, is "Fauna & Flora of the Gulf of Naples." His support for the station is also seen earlier in the year: on 15 February, Darwin wrote to the Station's founder, Anton Dohrn, offering to donate equipment worth £100.
