Pen and ink over pencil, with gouache additions, on cream wove paper, 1954. 230x303 mm; 9x12 inches. Signed and dated in ink, lower right. Indistinctly (erased?) signed, inscribed "STUDY" and titled in pencil, lower left. With notebook perforations, left margin.



Provenance: James A. Porter; hence by descent to his daughter, Constance Porter-Uzelac.

This early drawing was made in his final year at Howard University is possibly a study for a painting. Driskell won the Charles W. Allen Award in Art, and graduated with a B.A. in visual art in 1955.
