DAVID HOCKNEY
My Pool and Terrace.

Color etching and aquatint on wove paper, 1983. 605x905 mm; 23 3/4x35 1/2 inches, full margins. Signed, dated and numbered 171/250 in pencil, lower margin. Published by the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles. From Eight by Eight to Celebrate the Temporary Contemporary. A very good impression of this large print.

Hockney (born 1937) was raised in London and studied at the Royal Academy of Art. He moved to Los Angeles in 1964 and made it his second home; he has lived in both England and the Los Angeles area since the late 1960s. The saturated colors and the bright light inspired Hockney's iconic, quintessential Southern Californian aesthetic, which combines traditional impressionist painting techniques with the Pop Art movement and the color experimentation of the Post-Impressionists (he was particularly inspired by Henri Matisse). Hockney's oeuvre features predominately himself, and his family and friends, depicted to be almost life-size, landscapes and poolscapes.
