DAVID KLEIN (1918-2005) NEW YORK / FLY TWA. 1956.
39 3/4x24 3/4 inches, 102x63 cm.
Condition A-: minor repaired tears at edges; minor creases, abrasions and restoration in margins and image.
A bright, abstract, kaleidoscopic view of Times Square, with its billboards, lights, traffic, energy and excitement. The electic Day-Glo colors further convey the visual splendor of the city. This is the rare, first printing of the poster, which features a detailed image of a TWA Constellation. Later versions depict the silhouette of a jet plane. A year after it was issued, a copy of this poster was acquired by the Museum of Modern Art for their permanent collection. Metzl p. 166, Airways p. 148 (var).
