Additional Details

Formerly in a private New York collection. An early work by DeCarava, whose first published book was The Sweet Flypaper of Life, with Langston Hughes, in 1954. The work was acquired from DeCarava after what was, apparently, his first photography exhibition, at the 92nd Street Y, in New York City. The print is mounted and a handwritten number "8" appears in the lower right corner.

The collector, a friend of Blackburn, knew him in the early days of his Printmaking Workshop, which he opened in 1948. A year later Blackburn was teaching at Cooper Union, and was designated a master printer by the National Academy of Design. He printed his first lithograph for Charles White, "We Have Been Believers."
