The Palais de la Méditerranée, financed by Frank Jay Gould, opened on January 1, 1929. The event was immortalized by a poster designed by Lauro. The impressive Art Deco building, with its casino, hotel, bars and restaurant quickly became a hot spot in the Jazz era. This previously unreferenced poster by an unknown artist promoted one of the nightclubs in the building. Using only three colors it cleverly utilizes silhouettes to represent a stylized camera, movie star and strip of film. In a classic visual interpretation of the famous "lights, cameras . . . action!" the poster captures and imparts in the simplest way the mystique and allure of the film industry.
