Additional Details

first state of one of the most outstanding maps of Canada from the early 18th century. "De L'Isle's careful research resulted in the first map of Canada to present the whole of the Great Lakes correctly" and the region is shown "much more realistically than in previous maps of Canada" (Kershaw). Notable also as the first appearance of Detroit on a printed map. The imprint of the present example designates De L'Isle's first address of "Rue des Canettes prez de St. Sulpice" as opposed to more commonly seen copies imprinted after the publisher's move to "Quai de l'Horlage a la Couroune de Diamans".
