DELAUNAY, SONIA. Ses Peintures, Ses Objets, Ses Tissues Simultanés, Ses Modes. 20 pochoir plates of costumes, patterns, fabrics, and objects, designed by Delaunay, some containing multiple designs. Preface by André Lhote and commentary by Robert Delaunay, Albert Gleizes, Blaise Cendrars, Guillaume Apollinaire, and poems by Cendrars, Tristan Tzara, Philippe Soupault, and Joseph Delteil in tribute to Delaunay. Folio, 559 x 381 mm; 22 x 15 inches; contents loose as issued in original cloth-backed decorated boards (scattered staining and soiling, few splits along joints, extremities rubbed); plates generally bright but for mostly marginal toning and staining, occasional creases, tidemarks, short closed tears and wear along blank margins. Delaunay's magnificent portfolio of designs incorporating the color and design theory "Simultane" or, Simultaneous Contrast, the scientific concept propsed by Michel-Eugène Chevreul in 1839 of how the interaction of colors produces sensations of depth and movement. It was an idea that she and her husband, the artist Robert Delaunay, experimented with in the 1910s. This portfolio was published in 1925 to complement the Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes. Paris: Librairie des Arts Décoratifs, (1925)
