Denmark, born 1936 in Florida into a family of artists. He worked as an art teacher in the New York public school system while earning an MFA from Pratt Institute. He has had over 60 one-man exhibitions of his collages, watercolors and woodcuts. His work is hung in numerous museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
