Additional Details

Bayer's elegant and streamlined design was groundbreaking when compared to the more fanciful and decorative currency common to most world banks. The design was the result of a commission by the Thuringian state government in Weimar in 1923 who approached Bayer to create new paper money for use during the wild inflation in Germany at the time. The notes were in varying denominations ranging from one to ten million marks and were signified by different colors. Bayer page 201; A & O page 166.
