The Days of '49 celebration, a historical recreation of the exciting mining era, was a promotional event sponsored by the Sacramento Chamber of Commerce. A brochure from the event (held in the Sacramento Public Library) states that the six-day-long happening would be "Bizarre, Spectacular, Inspiring . . . when you arrive in Sacramento you find the Curtain of the Past thrown aside. Spread before you is a typical '49 mining town . . . here you may live the life of the true Forty-Niner amid surroundings just as alluring as the period of history which is reproduced" (http://www.sacramentohistory.org/admin/photo/806_1598.pdf). Maynard Dixon designed sketches for posters advertising this same event, but the organizers went with this anonymous artist instead.
