Java and Bali are two islands in Indonesia that were part of the Dutch East Indies and a Dutch colony through the Second World War. This image of a royal procession in which a woman is carried on a litter past one of the islands and many volcanoes, was published by the Official Information Bureau in Batavia (now Jakarta) and was aimed at English speaking tourists.
