Henry D. Beach, the proprietor of Coshocton Ohio's H.D. Beach Sign Company, was a vanguard in the world of chromolithographic printing on tin. Specializing in items like plates and trays, the company also produced advertising and promotional pieces such as this handsome portrait of the Mauretania which is presented within a self-framed decorative, printed border of nautical rope. The four-funneled Mauretania launched in 1906, with its maiden voyage in the following year. Nicknamed the "Grand Old Lady of the Atlantic," the ship made hundreds of trans-Atlantic crossings, and served as a transport and hospital ship during World War I.
