The NYK Line (Nippon Yusen Kaisha - The Japanese Mail Steamship Company) formed in 1885, when two smaller Japanese shipping companies merged. Initially, the fleet of 58 ships served Asian ports, but quickly expanded service to Europe and America. The poster depicts the Hakone Maru, launched in 1921.
