In 1904, the first golf course in the Austro-Hungarian Empire opened in Karlovy Vary (Karlsbad). One year later, a second course was opened in another spa town, Marianske Lazne (Marienbad). By the time of the Second World War there were nine different golf courses in the small central European nation. Pictured here is a golfer in mid swing on the fairway of the course at Marianske Lazne, the spa town's recognizable "Golf Hotel" visible in the background. Golf p. 8.
