In 1955, Canadian Pacific began operating "The Canadian," a stainless steel train with a domed viewing car, on its transcontinental route from Montreal to Vancouver. Curiously, here, the focus is on a family meal in a nook by the stairway leading up to the observation car, with only scant attention paid to the scenic vista rolling by outside the window.
