SEE BOULDER DAM ENROUTE TO CALIFORNIA / UNION PACIFIC. Circa 1936.

41x26 3/4 inches, 104x68 cm. LIP & BA, Chicago.
Condition B+: repaired tear at bottom edge, through text; minor repaired tears, creases and abrasions at edges.

A photomontage of America's most famous dam taken "at dedication ceremonies Sept 30, 1935." Completed in 1936, the dam, spanning Boulder Canyon, was called the Boulder Dam until 1947, when Congress passed a resolution renaming the dam after President Herbert Hoover. Both compositionally and typographically, this poster is more in keeping with avant-garde posters of Europe during the 1930s than with the prevailing illustrative trends in America.
