SIMPLON EXPRESS / FERROVIE DELLO STATO. 1911.

57 1/2x42 1/4 inches, 146x107 1/4 cm. A. Marzi, Rome.
Condition B+: repaired tears, replaced losses, creases and minor abrasions in margins and image and along vertical and horizontal folds. Two-sheets. Mounted on paper.

Pictured here illuminated by the setting sun, is the magnificent Ca' d'Oro (Golden Palace) on Venice's Grand Canal; its original, ornate golden facade is lost to time. The building has been a museum since 1927. The Simplon Express began running in 1906 with the opening of the Simplon tunnel. Although unsigned, this work bears resemblance to other posters designed by Mario Borgoni. Wagons-Lits 78.
