Steve Paul's The Scene was a seminal New York music venue in operation from 1964 to 1970. Located in a basement on 46th street in Manhattan's theatre district, the club hosted such rock luminaries as Pink Floyd, Traffic, Jeff Beck, Fleetwood Mac, Tiny Tim, The Doors and The Velvet Underground. The Scene was also the site of New York's first appearance by the Jimi Hendrix Experience (June 3, 1967). Andy Warhol managed the The Velvet Underground from 1965 to 1967, during which time the band largely performed as part of Warhol's Exploding Plastic Inevitable multimedia "events." A rare and fascinating piece of 1960s pop culture history.
