Serge Gainsbourg, who spent a brief time as Brigette Bardot's lover, composed one of her most memorable songs: Harley Davidson. Already one of the world's great sex symbols, when this song was first presented on French TV on New Year's Eve 1967, Bardot sang the song dancing next to and astride a motorcycle wearing a tantalizing outfit of high leather boots and leather mini-dress. When the single was released she was depicted on the cover similarly clad. The single went on to become a hit, and Bardot, already a sensation, cemented herself in the firmament of western fantasy. The poster, which was printed in response to overwhelming public demand, was mass-produced. But few have survived the dorm room walls where they were originally hung.
