Designed to promote the Paris engagement of David Bowie's Serious Moonlight tour in June of 1983, this poster infused the pop art aesthetic of the previous decade with innovative graphic design elements more typical of the late 1980s and early 1990s. "Let's Dance," the album promoted by the tour, was a surprise success for the artist, becoming one of his best-selling albums and Bowie's most successful international tour, which sold out every venue it played in its eight month run. In what is widely considered a transitional period for the artist musically, from glam rock youth to an icon with artistic staying power, this poster rather pointedly shows the artist's Warholesque image fading into a darkness from which this new persona can emerge.
