Linking the New World with the old, the Canadian Pacific Ocean Services (as the steamship branch became known in 1915) offered transportation for immigrants moving to Canada. With fleets operating on both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, the ships were named and known as Empresses. "In 1927 and 1928, four Duchess steamships were launched for the Quebec to Liverpool service. In the same vein as Empresses of the Pacific, these vessels were often referred to as Duchesses of the Atlantic. (Canadian Pacific p. 44). Here Quebec's majestic Chateau Frontenac is the elegant backdrop for the on-board scene of a woman waving at another Empress.
