GRANDE PISCINE ROCHECHOUART. Circa 1886.

31½x23½ inches, 80x59¾ cm. A. Pitron & Co., Paris.
Condition A.

The Grande Piscine Rochechouart was built by famed "founder of the music hall," Joseph Oller. After establishing the Fantasies Oller music hall, Spanish-born Oller went on to found the Nouveau Cirque, La Bombonnière, Paris Olympia and co-founded the Moulin Rouge. Quite the adventurous entrepreneur, Oller also invented a new method of betting (the "pari-mutuel bet") that was eventually legalized for race tracks around the world. Other posters advertising the Grand Piscine announce Mondays and Fridays as "ladies only" days, and promote the pool's "hydrothépie & vapeur" amenities.
