DESIGNER UNKNOWN HALDY. Circa 1900. 51 1/4x39 1/2 inches, 130x100 cm. Camis, Paris. Condition B+ / A-: minor discoloration in image; vertical and horizontal folds; minor tears and losses at edges. Japan. A rather entertaining image for a mass produced brand of pocket watches that are said to "regulate the sun." The poster is full of images and allegories, including Father Time, a virtual shower of watches from a cornucopia and colorfully depicted representatives of every continent who are literally trying to get their hands on these watches. Even with so much text (something the advertiser would have insisted on, even over objections from designers) the artists of the Camis printing plant were able to execute the illustration in a legible and compelling manner.
