In 1938 and 1939, Imperial Airways took delivery of seven De Havilland D.H.91 Albatrosses and put them into service. The sleek and beautiful 4-engine craft were originally designed to carry mail, but the all-wood airplanes were reconfigured to carry passengers. Following maritime and railway tradition of naming ships and locomotives, each aircraft in the fleet was given a name starting with the same letter, in this instance "F," and the name of the first aircraft was used to describe the entire class. Hence, "Frobishers." The Frobishers only effectively served the airline for one year, as in 1940 they were pressed into service with the Royal Air Force. The particular aircraft on this poster (which is, in fact, the "Frobisher") was destroyed in a German air raid on December 20th, 1940. English version.
