Anna May Wong is considered to be the first Chinese-American movie star. A worldwide sensation in the 1920s she became frustrated with Hollywood, where she could never land a leading role, and moved to Europe. Piccadily (its English title), was shot in England and released in 1929. In the 1920s in Sweden there was "a marked increase in the demand for qualified advertising artists, who made sure that Modernist idiom with its characteristic use of color and form was applied in an ever more sophisticated manner for the purposes of commerce and publicity."
