An extremely rare document of the Spanish Civil War. "The Fascists airplanes bomb the schools in Spain" was published in France by the French Committee for a Free Spain and printed by the book industry union. The poster uses one of the most terrifying photos of the period (an image which appears on other posters -- see Swann Modernist Poster Auction #1897, lot 43) surrounded by lighter photographs of other children killed in the conflict. In France, during the Spanish Civil War, the French left, and extreme left, were lobbying to have the French Government officially intervene in the conflict. At the time, even though the Socialists were in power, the French Prime Minister, Leon Blum, did nothing to save the Spanish republicans while Hitler was sending more and more troops to Spain.
