The Pacific Steam Navigation Company was founded in 1838 to serve the West coast of South America, and expanded their service across the Pacific to Australia. The Reina de Pacifico was a large, luxurious ship. Launched in 1930, she was the first in the company's fleet to be painted white, and her front funnel was a dummy. She gained international fame when former British Prime Minister Ramsay MacDonald died on board while on a cruise to South America in 1937.
