Filberto Rico was born in Cuba in 1910 and performed in Copenhagen and Paris before forming his own band in Paris in 1930. He was instrumental in introducing rumba and conga to the French public, frequently playing at La Coupole in Montparnasse. He left Paris in the midst of the war in 1941, but returned in the late 1940s to pick up his career where he left off. This rare poster for one of his albums shows him playing the flute (he was also an alto saxophonist), surrounded by sensuously-dancing maidens, one of whom has a castanet preserving her modesty.
