The Toyo Kisen Kaisha (TKK) line was founded in 1896 to take advantage of the Trans-Pacific trade and passenger routes, with the original service running from Yokohama to San Francisco. By 1905 the company had branched out into South American routes as well. In 1926 the TKK line was absorbed into the NYK (Nippon Yusen Kaisha) Line. This rare and unusual poster boasts wonderful East meets West aspects. It has the horizontal elements of Japanese woodblock prints, the misty mountain of Japanese paintings in the background, the woman in a traditional kimono, as well as depicting Western-clad passengers and crew on board the vessel.
