DESIGNER UNKNOWN UNTERSTUTZT UNSERE STAATSORGANE. 1952.
32 7/8x23 1/4 inches. Tagliche Rundschau, Berlin.
Condition A-: minor tear and restored losses in margins; horizontal fold.
A pro-Socialist photomontage combined with an anti-Western caricature from East Germany, calling on citizens to support the state in its efforts to create a "united" Berlin. The image depicts the construction of East Berlin's showcase Stalinallee Boulevard, superimposed with photographs of workers, children and functionaries all happily part of the collective. Beneath the montage, in caricature form, Western leaders are depicted desperately clinging to a sinking boat that is hemorrhaging money. Grasping a mast bearing the American flag for dear life are Conrad Adenauer, Arno Scholz (newspaper publisher, seen here holding the Telegraf), Ernst Reuter (mayor of Berlin), and the director of RIAS (Radio in the American Sector).
