These posters were printed in enormous quantity and used across the country to designate work sites that were being funded and manned by the Works Projects Administration. The hand-stenciled numbers refer to the specific area and project being undertaken where the poster would have been posted - in this case, the project designated as No. 165 81 1083 (road graveling) was in Adams County, Hastings, Nebraska. Given how many of these would have been printed, very few of them have survived and even fewer have come to market. Rare.
