This is the second of two official posters designed for the Squaw Valley Winter Olympic Games. The first one was issued before the exact dates of the games were determined. This second poster "appeared late in 1959 with the purpose of showing the location of Squaw Valley in relation to a map of the United States and giving the date of the Games" (Olympic Posters p. 65). Walt Disney himself was chairman of the pageantry committee for the VIII Olympic Winter Games, which put him in charge of the opening and closing ceremonies. Vice President Richard Nixon officially opened the games. The poster was printed in five different languages. This is the English version. Olympic p. 77, Art of Skiing p. 129.
