Printed, painted and sewn fabrics and mixed media coat; papier-mâché and acrylic over wire hanger, 2017 - 2020. Approximately 1054x1168 mm; 41½x46 inches (coat); 381x558 mm; 15x22 inches (hanger). Signed, titled and dated in ink, hanger verso.

Provenance: acquired directly from the artist, private collection.

Dindga McCannon made this unique duster coat which she wore to each opening of the traveling exhibition We Wanted a Revolution: Black Radical Women, 1965 – 1985, organized by the Brooklyn Museum. Names, portraits, and exhibition posters of the collective, Where We At: Black Women Artists are emblazoned on the coat. The collective consisted of such artists as Carol Blank, Kay Brown, Faith Ringgold, Ann Tanksley, Miriam Francis, and Jamillah Jennings. The group served as a source of empowerment for African American women, exploring issues of Black women's sensibilities and aesthetics through art and exhibiton practice.
