Additional Details

Mike Disfarmer was born in the small town of Heber Springs, Arkansas, where he operated a portrait studio from the 1920s-50s. An authentic American eccentric, this folk artist-cum-photographer recorded the locals of his mountain village--families, laborers, siblings, friends, and couples alike--with remarkable aesthetic consistency. Although little is known about Disfarmer''s personal life and influences, critics have hailed his curious black-and-white portraits as "works of artistic genius."
