COMMENTING ON GRANT'S VICTORY IN 1868 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION DIX, JOHN A. Autograph Letter Signed, to Harry S. Paris, 30 November 1868

Additional Details

". . . I am happy to perceive that the Democrats are getting, not merely reconciled to but, gratified with their defeat. [James] Brooks of the Express, I am told, suggests that their electors should cast votes for Grant. Under these circumstances I think they are bound in common justice to cancel all the abuse they poured on my devoted head, & indeed, to thank me for the truth I told them about Seymour."
