Additional Details

In 1908 Rodman Wanamaker subsidized an expedition to document the way of life of the American Indians. This expedition was headed by Dixon, who photographed in and around the camp at Little Big Horn. Working with the Crow tribe, he captured everyday life recreating scenes from the battle of Little Big Horn. 8000 images were taken between 1908 and 1923 of more than 150 Native American tribes. The negatives are housed at the Mathers Museum of Indiana University.
