Doc Ball was a surfing pioneer and enthusiast whose passion helped him establish the Palos Verdes Surf Club. His other hobby was photography; combining the two, he published the influential 1946 book California Surfers with which he introduced the wider world to this Southern Californian sport. A visionary, instrumental in promulgating the sport, Hall lived to be 94 years old and was regarded as the oldest living active surfer in America.
