"DONFELD" (DONALD LEE FELD).
"Natalie Wood." Sketch of Orry-Kelly's costume design for Wood as Louise Hovick in the 1962 film Gypsy, likely commissioned by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences for an exhibition, circa 1985. Marker, pen, ink, and correction fluid on paper. 455x305 mm; 18x12 inches. Titled in Donfeld's hand in upper right image.

Donfeld created a series of sketches of numerous costumes by iconic Hollywood costume designers in his own signature style. Born Donald Lee Feld, the four-time Academy Award nominee was a prolific designer in Hollywood throughout the 1960s, '70s, and '80s. In addition to more than thirty films, Donfeld also designed for television (he created costumes for Lynda Carter in the original Wonder Woman television series), cabaret, and for the Las Vegas shows of stars, such as Barbra Streisand and Nancy Sinatra. He formed close bonds with the stars he dressed and held near-weekly salons at his home for his celebrity friends. Orry-Kelly, chief costume designer for Warner Bros. during Hollywood's golden era, was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Costume Design for his work in Gypsy, which featured designs for Wood's character of Louise Hovick, a burlesque dancer.
