Currently the capital of the small Indian state of Meghalaya, and the former capital of Assam, Shillong is referred to as "The Scotland of the East," because of its geological similarity to the Scottish Highlands. Newsome depicts none of the area's physical attractions in this poster, concentrating instead on the colorful attire of a local woman and the innovative manner in which she is transporting her baby. Newsome designed many posters advertising travel to India, illustrating combinations of local scenes with famous landmarks and local people.
