first edition. inscribed by douglas "for samuel steward by alfred douglas, may 1934. 2 misprints corrected by the author a. d." In Steward's own memoir, he describes seeking out Lord Alfred, intrigued by his association with Oscar Wilde. He writes of receiving the present inscribed copy in some detail. The two corresponded by mail for a few years after Steward received this book until they eventually met in Europe and became intimately involved. Their meeting and ensuing liaison is described at length in the chapter "The Magic Summer." Steward went on to write several erotic stories under the pseudonym "Phil Andros."
