An advertisement for an appearance of the Jubilee Singers in Washington D.C. "During the recent visit of the Jubilee Singers to Washington, they were invited by Frederick Douglass to spend an evening with him at his house. He had attended their Concert the previous evening and expressed himself enthusiastically with regard to it. Said he "You are doing more to remove the prejudice against our race than ten thousand platforms could do." During the evening he said, "I can remember songs that I heard fifty years ago, when a slave." A strong desire was expressed by the singers to hear some of them, and to their delight and the surprise of his family, he sang the following:-- "Run to Jesus-shun the danger--I don't expect to stay much longer here; he will be our dearest friend and will help us to the end; I don't expect to stay much longer here. . .etc., etc."
