Lithograph, circa 1939-40. 161x406 mm; 6 3/8x16 inches, 1/8- 1/2 left and right margins, wide upper and lower margins. Published by the Federal Art Project, WPA, Philadelphia, recorded in the National Archives and Records Administration, Washington, DC. Signed and titled in pencil, lower margin. Short 1/2-inch repaired tear, left margin. A very good impression of this very scarce print.

Only eight known impressions recorded in public and private collections. One of only 14 known lithographs created by the artist.

Thrash was inspired by a mural by African-American artist William Edouard Scott for the subject of a hospital mural he planned in 1939. This version of "There was an Old Woman who lived in a Shoe" is related to the project for the children's ward of Mercy Hospital. Ittmman p. 5 and 47. Ittmann 159.
