DOX THRASH (1893 - 1965)
Cabin Days.

Carborundum mezzotint on cream wove paper, 1938-1939. 254x232 mm; 10x9 ⅛ inches, wide margins. Proof, aside from an unknown edition. A posthumous impression, with the estate signature ink stamp, lower margin.

Possibly a childhood memory of growing up in Griffin, Georgia, this evocative print displays Thrash's experimental technique in carborundum mezzotint and an unromantic view of the Black experience living in rural America. Thrash called this medium "Opheliagraph" for period in honor of his mother, who died in 1936.

IIttmann notes only two impressions of this scarce print in public collections. Ittmann 90.
