DOX THRASH (1893 - 1965)
Sunday Afternoon.

Etching, circa 1941. 267x216 mm; 10 1/2x8 1/2 inches. An extremely scarce proof, with extensive hand-wiping, plate tone and inky edges.

We have not located any other impressions of this very scarce print. Sunday Afternoon is strikingly similar to Thrash's earlier print from his WPA period, Sunday Morning, which depicts a woman with an umbrella walking towards a church. In this proof, the woman is walking the opposite direction and Thrash added a young girl trailing behind her to the composition. Ittmann describes and illustrates the print's copper plate which is in the collection of the National Museum of American History, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, DC. We have not located any other impressions of this print. Ittmann 28.
