Additional Details

limited edition, number 25 of 147 copies with the limitation leaf signed by the author and tipped in to volume 1 after the half-title. In 1930 Doyle signed a number of blank sheets intended for inclusion in that year's planned signed limited Crowborough edition of his writings. That 24 volume set was restricted to 760 copies, but the publisher (also Doubleday) had Doyle sign enough sheets to accommodate spoilage as well as any future plans for an even more restrictive signed edition. A total of 147 extra signed sheets survived after publication of the Crowborough edition and went into reserve. Doyle died later in 1930, and these sheets remained unused until their discovery several decades later, permitting this posthumous signed edition.
