with-1-page ALS on his stationery laid-in wherein Doyle requests a Dr. Davies to look after his maid while he is in America. Supposedly, "there has been some hysteria in her case..." While this letter is dated March 28 of an unknown year, Freud's contemporary writings on hysteria must have influenced Doyle. The plot for his 1893 work, The Adventure of the Musgrave Ritual, is centered around the disappearance of a hysterical maid; perhaps a case of art imitating life.
